National Book Lovers’ Day 2016: 5 Books Heading for the Big Screen

By August 9, 2016News, Video

Did you know that today is National Book Lovers Day 2016? If you’re anything like me you met the news with the declaration that ‘every day is book lovers day in my house’, but there you go, we have a National Day!

If there was ever a day you were justified in ordering in take out and reading your book for the rest of the evening, then today is it, but in honour of the day we thought we’d give you a list of books heading for the big screen!

If you always like to read the book before you watch the movie, then here are five titles to add to your TBR, plus the details of the upcoming movie release.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

The Miss Peregrine’s Trilogy has been one of the most talked about book series of the last couple of years and now it’s coming to the big screen in a adaptation due to release in cinemas on September 30th.

Queen of Katwe

The book is a biopic focussing on Phiona Mutesi from Uganada who trains to be a world chess champion, and you might just want to read the book before it gets the Disney treatment on September 23rd.

The Girl on the Train

The Girl on the Train was the love it/hate it thriller of last year, and if you were in the love it camp then you’ll be thrilled to know that it’s at cinemas from October 7th.

A Monster Calls

If you loved the 2011 Patrick Ness book about a boy who finds a tree monster to help him deal with his mother’s terminal illness, then it’s coming to the big screen. We hope the movie will do it justice but if you want to read the book first you have until October 21st.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

It seems like forever since we brought you the news that the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was coming to the big screen, and that date is finally coming around as the first in the trilogy opens on November 18th.

What better to do on National Book Lovers Day than read the book, before the movie ruins it (although I have to confess I’ll definitely be checking out some of these movies too).
