Reports State Amazon’s ‘ The Wheel of Time’ Adaptation Delayed by COVID-19

If you’re a fan of The Wheel of Time fantasy series by Robert Jordan, then you’re probably aware that Amazon recently announced it is working on a live-action adaptation of the books for its streaming service Amazon Prime. If you can’t wait to see Jordan’s world brought to life, then I’m afraid we’ve got bad news. It seems filming has been halted and isn’t set to resume until the Spring of next year.

As wotseries.com reports, a number of sources have stated that production on the series has been halted. No specific reasons were given but it’s very likely to do with the worsening situation of thew COVID-19 pandemic in the Czech Republic, where the series is being filmed. While fans will be disappointed to learn of the delay, the sources claim production will continue in April 2021.

It appears the decision to delay the project has been made by the production rather than being imposed by the government of the Czech Republic. The first season was originally scheduled to wrap in May of this year, but the show is now a year behind its original release window. The Wheel of Time series is far from the only production to struggle against the ongoing pandemic, and many blockbuster films like Wonder Woman 1984, Black Widow, and the upcoming Dune all being delayed due to the fact the majority of cinemas are closed. Those looking forward to Amazon’s ambitious project can at least take comfort in the fact streaming shows don’t have to rely on cinemas being open in order to be released to the public.

We hope the cast and crew of the production are all doing well, and that the current pandemic will be over sooner rather than later.
