Rosamund Pike Cast in Amazon’s ‘The Wheel of Time’ Series

By June 24, 2019Adaptations, News

Last year, we reported the news that Amazon had acquired the rights to start filming a TV adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time for it’s Amazon Prime streaming service. Those of you who are looking forward to the upcoming show will be pleased to learn that actress Rosamund Pike has been cast in a leading role.

Rosamund Pike has appeared in a number of high profile film and TV roles and received critical acclaim for her portrayal Amy Dunne in the 2014 film adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel Gone Girl. According to Variety, Pike will play the character of Moiraine in the upcoming series, who is a member of an all-female organization called the Aes Sedai.

Magic is a major force in The Wheel of Time series, but only certain women are able to access it. The story follows Moiraine as she embarks upon a long journey with a number of companions, one of whom is prophesied to save humanity or destroy it.

Despite being a fantasy series, The Wheel of Time draws inspiration from European and Asian cultures, as well as philosophies relating to Buddhism and Hinduism. The series is currently in production and an exact release date is yet to be announced, though we can probably expect it next year.
