The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is offering children free access to hundreds of online resources and activities.

The independent charity, based in Shakespeare’s home town of Stratford-Upon-Avon, has pledged to support teachers and kids while they are learning at home during the pandemic.

The resources have been developed by the Trust’s education team in line with the UK’s national curriculum for children aged 4 to 14. The team have ensured the resources are engaging and fun as well as educational, and will encourage interest in William Shakespeare.

Activities include writing comic strips, exploring the Shakespeare insult generator, building with Lego, creating a witches’ spell from Macbeth, and imagining what Romeo and Juliet would write in their diaries, and so many more.

The charity offer guides for children to build their own Shakespeare characters from Lego bricks.

Shakespeare courses development manager at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Dr Nick Walton, said: “As a result of the global pandemic we’ve had to find new ways to bring Shakespeare to life for schools and learners whilst we’re unable to physically welcome them to our historic sites in Stratford-upon-Avon. Our dedicated team continue to inspire children with Shakespeare’s stories and heritage by pulling together some choice recommendations from our popular classroom resources and fun activities online. We’re also developing new resources for Key Stages 3 & 4 and A-level learners to support their home learning. These are due to launch in the coming weeks.”

From the 15th to the 21st of March Shakespeare Week will be based around the theme of Wellbeing featuring a programme of emotional wellbeing activities inspired by Shakespeare’s works.
