Sarah, Duchess of York, has written her very first novel for Mills & Boon.

A Heart for a Compass is based partly on the life of a distant relative, and is due for release in August. There are also rumours that the Duchess is already starting work on another.

As an avid reader, writer, and a fan of history and romance, the royal author is ecstatic to be on board with Mills & Boon.

“I have long held a passion for historical research and telling the stories of strong women in history through film and television. I am proud to bring my personal brand of historical fiction to the publishing world.”

The Duchess also gives thanks to her “collaborator and mentor”, Marguerite Kay, who is the author of no fewer than 50 books for the imprint.

The Duchess with her children’s book- Little Red

Sarah Ferguson has other writing projects to her name, including her memoir: Finding Sarah, and her work as executive producer for the 2009 film, The Young Victoria. She is already a known children’s author with her Budgie the Little Helicopter series – there’s another one of those on the way – and Little Red. This year sees the release of The Enchanted OakArthur Fantastic and Genie Gems.

She has also a few titles in the self-help and dieting book genres with What I Know Now; simple lessons learned the hard way, Dining with the Duchess, Dieting with the Duchess, and Reinventing Yourself with the Duchess of York.

Her books have sold over 1.5 million copies, and no doubt the the Mills & Boon novels will be just as successful.
