Third Sherlock Holmes movie is confirmed

By September 4, 2019Adaptations, News

The third instalment of the Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), is on its way!

The movie franchise inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes novels first appeared in 2009, with a second instalment in 2011. The production team at Warner Bros had reportedly always planned a third Sherlock movie but fans had almost given up hope, until now. After an almost 10 year break- presumably so Downey Jr could immerse himself in MCU’s Iron Man- the movie has been filmed and will be on our screens in the near future.

Guy Ritchie had directed the first two highly successful movies, however Dexter Fletcher, who is fresh off the success of his Elton John Biopic Rocketman, has taken the reigns this time. Fletcher was also filmmaker on “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and directed “Rocketman” star Taron Edgerton in “Eddie the Eagle”.

Robert Downey Jr as Holmes and Jude Law as Watson

The film will be a co-production between Warner Bros and Village Roadshow.

Jude Law has been confirmed to return as Professor Watson alongside the inimitable Robert Downey Jr. Chris Brancato is penning the script, while Susan Downey, Joel Silver, Dan Lin and Lionel Wigram are producing.

Sherlock Holmes 3 had previously been due for release on Christmas Day 2020, however the date has been pushed back to 2021.
