Irish children’s author Eoin Colfer was born on 14th May 1965. Colfer grew up with his four brothers in Wexford, where he discovered his love of writing whilst studying The Vikings in primary school.

Colfer’s first novel “Benny and Omar” was published in 1998, but it wasn’t until his first Artemis Fowl novel was published in 2001 that he was able to give up his job as a teacher to become a full-time writer.

More than 20 million copies of  The Artemis Fowl series, which consists of 8 novels, four graphic novels and 3 short stories, have since been sold worldwide.

In August of this year, Disney is releasing  “Artemis Fowl” a film directed by Kenneth Branagh, starring amongst others Ferdia Shaw as Artemis and Judy Dench as Commander Root.
