Audiobook Downloads at Record High

By June 11, 2018News, Reading Formats

Stats released by the Publishers Association have revealed that audiobook downloads rose 22% last year to an all time record high of £31 million worth of sales. The statistics were released by the Publishers Association to mark the start of Love Audio Week, which runs from 11th to 17th June.

The stats show that there has been year on year growth for audiobooks, and while this year is 22% compared to 28% in 2016, it’s still a sizeable growth and has pushed the market to a record high.

As many camps are stating that the love of reading is falling away, these figures are encouraging, indicating that even those who don’t always read in the traditional way, still love listening to stories and books.

Audible are the biggest sellers of audio books but most large publishing houses now have their own audiobook department. Many of these publishers are celebrating Love Audio Week with special deals and fresh content making it a fantastic week for audio book listeners.
