ap-ok-riff-al

Having doubtful authenticity although widely circulated as true. Usually of a story.

We hear the words ‘urban legend’ so much today, but we don’t hear the word apocryphal so much. Here’s a little reminder of a great word.

Example sentences

“It makes a great warning message but I think the story is apocryphal.”

“I have no idea of the story is apocryphal, but I’d love to believe it’s true!”
