Amazon Prime Land the Rights to Jack Reacher Television Series

By July 23, 2019Adaptations, News

Last Autumn we brought you the news that a Jack Reacher television series was in the works. We’ve already seen the character brought to the big screen, but rather unsuccessfully as many book readers felt that Tom Cruise made a poor Jack Reacher.

Author Lee Child stated that after the movie adaptation he received tens of thousands of letters stating that Tom Cruise was not a believable Jack Reacher when Reacher is said to be a giant of a man, and Cruise is not all that tall.

Last year Child stated that there was some interest in a television show that would be much more in depth than the movies, dedicating 10-12 hours of screen time to each book, and this week we can announce that Amazon Prime has won the rights to adapt the series.

The Jack Reacher books have sold 60 million copies to date with 23 books in the series so far, so it’s hardly surprising that a competitive situation was reported to develop the script to series drama. Now it’s confirmed that the series will be a co-production between Amazon Studios, Skydance Television, and Paramount Television. Nick Santora, who created Scorpion is on board to write the script, and serve as showrunner to the series.

The Jack Reacher series is hugely successful and already considered to be a billion-dollar brand. The books have been published in 49 languages in 101 territories.

In other Jack Reacher news it’s also been announced that Reacher will feature in an explosive short story co-written with Karin Slaughter’ featuring her long-running character Will Trent.
