Candice Carty-Williams’ Queenie to be Adapted for Channel 4

Candice Carty-Williams’ Queenie is a darkly funny début novel that follows Queenie Jenkins, a 25-year-old, black journalist living in South London, who can’t seem to cut a break. The novel soon received critical acclaim from readers and literary critics alike, after its publication earlier this year, for its contemporary representation and tackling of issues including; mental health, race, class and consent. Now, this number two, Sunday Times bestseller is heading to our small screens.

The exciting news was announced by the TV and radio magazine Broadcast Now, and confirmed by the author herself on Twitter. Candice Carty-Williams wrote, “I’m not sure if this is out because I’ve told the wrong person or because C4 have announced it but either way it’s TRUE and I am EXCITED to bring Queenie to the small (ish) screen.”

Channel 4 is developing the drama based on Candice Carty-Williams’ hit novel Queenie. The TV series will be produced by Further South Productions, which is a joint venture with Lionsgate, from ITV’s former chief of drama, Steve November. Broadcast Now, report that Steve November optioned the book in May this year, just a month after Queenie’s publication in April 2019.

It is understood that the author, Candice Carty-Williams herself, with be adapting her own work, from bestselling novel to hit TV series, so we have high hope for this upcoming adaptation.

Sadly, there is little more on this project so far, and Further South Productions and Channel 4 have apparently declined to comment, reported Broadcast Now. However, we hope to hear more about the cast, production team and a premiere date for Candice Carty-Williams’ Queenie soon.
