HBO Currently Developing Watchmen TV Series

Watchmen was a comic series that began its run in 1986 and followed a group of flawed vigilantes as they struggled combat evil in a gritty alternative version of New York. After finishing its run in 1987, the comics were compiled into a graphic novel which has since become widely regarded as one of the most important graphic novels of al time, Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, the story subverts comic book genres rules in a variety of ways and shows comics are by no means just for kids.

A film adaptation of the book was released back in 2009 and now it seems we may see the Watchmen return on the small screen. As Hollywood Reporter reports, screenwriter Damon Lindelof is currently in talks with HBO about a Watchmen TV series. Whilst nothing offical has yet been announced, many fans of the book will be eager to see it adapted by a network as successful as HBO.

TV adaptations appear to be all the rage at the moment with adaptations of many comic series’ currently on air such as Preacher, The Walking Dead, Agents of Shield, Arrow, and Legion. Several of Alan Moore’s works have already been adapted into films including From Hell, Batman: The Killing Joke, and V for Vendetta. Moore has always distanced himself from adaptations of his work so it seems unlikely he’ll be involved with the Watchmen HBO adaptation.
