New Adaptation for ‘My Cousin Rachel’ Due for Release and the Trailer is Dark

By May 14, 2017Adaptations, News, Video

Fox Searchlight Pictures is due to release a brand new adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s 1951 novel of the same name and its due for release in just a couple of weeks. My Cousin Rachel might not be as well known as Rebecca but it shouldn’t be overlooked, it offers the same Gothic foreboding du Maurier is well known for and the trailer looks amazing!

The gothic mystery takes place on a large estate in Cornwall, the setting for many of du Maurier’s novels and has been adapted for screen and stage several times. The most well known adaptation is the 1952 movie starring Richard Burton and Olivia de Havilland but the new adaptation also has an all star cast and it looks sensational!

Filming took part in England and Italy throughout the spring and although the movie was set for release this month, that date has been put back to June 9th when the movie is expected for general release. This new adaptation will star Rachel Weisz, Sam Clafin, Iain Glen and Holliday Grainger, and was written by Roger Michell. Here’s the full trailer:

There are only a couple of weeks left now until general release so if you would like to read My Cousin Rachel before the movie comes out, you’ll need to be quick.

This is one of a string of classic novels to be adapted for screen in recent years in what is becoming quite a trend, and it’s creating a revival for classic literature too. My Cousin Rachel is already back on the Amazon bestsellers’ list, although we do apologise as the movie cover is already released!

When you think of Daphne du Maurier you probably think of Rebecca, but My Cousin Rachel has all du Maurier’s signature style and plenty of dark mystery too.
