10 Crimebusting Quotes from Michael Connelly

Michael Connelly is an American author of crime fiction, with his best known creation being the LAPD Detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch and criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller. A multi award winning novelist he was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July the 21st 1956 where he grew up becoming fascinated by crime and mystery, a hobby that was compounded when, at age sixteen and on his way home from work as a dishwasher he witnessed a man throw an object into a hedge, ever curious he went to see what the object was and found a gun wrapped in a lumberjack shirt. He followed the man to a local bar, then went home and told his father and the police, who went to the bar but found that the man had moved on.

That single incident was pivotal in young Connolly’s life as it introduced him to the work the police undertook and opened up a whole new aspect of crime fighting to him, and after finishing college he began work as a crime beat writer at the Daytona Beach News Journal, where he worked for almost two years before moving to the Fort Lauderdale News and Sun-Sentinel in 1981. His coverage of the South Florida cocaine wars and his interviews of the survivors of the 1985 Delta Flight 191 plane crash saw him working as a crime reporter at the Los Angeles Times; After three years there, Connelly wrote his first published novel, The Black Echo in 1992 and has never looked back, quitting his job to become a full time author he has written almost 50 books that have been translated into 39 languages and have sold over 60 million copies worldwide.

Here we have gathered together 10 Crimebusting Quotes from Michael Connelly to give you a taste of who he is and how he writes, we hope you enjoy them.

“Money. The ultimate motivation. The ultimate way of keeping score.”

“It’s only a wonderful world if you can make it that way. There are no street signs pointing to Paradise Road.”

“There is a means to every end. A root to any cause. Sometimes the root is more evil than any cause, though it’s the cause that is usually most vilified.”

“There is no trap so deadly as the trap you set for yourself.”

“Everybody counts, or nobody counts.”

I love the mental imagery that springs to mind when reading the quote that says “It is an amazing thing to be able to hold everything that is important to you in one arm.”  Although nothing is specified we all know that he means a child when describing something so small yet of such immense value.

Am I the only one who thinks that Harry Bosch looks like Michael Connelly? Also Jack Reacher looks like Lee Child, Kinsey Milhone looks like Sue Grafton, and Kay Scarpetta looks like Patricia Cornwell. Clearly they are all fantasy alter-egos.
