Born Eleanor Roberts on October 10th 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland she is better known to us as Nora Robert, J.D Robb, Jill March and Sarah Hardesty to name but a few, and her In Death series is a regular in our polls. Coming from a family of avid readers Nora says that other than a few school essays she didn’t really write anything as a child although she claims she was an extremely good liar and told a few elaborate fibs that her ‘mother still believes to this day’ and credits the imagination and memory required to create these alternate truths for her literary success.

Married to her first husband at a young age, Nora would spend the next few years as a homemaker and began writing short stories in 1979 after a blizzard had trapped her and her family in the house with a dwindling supply of chocolate and no kindergarten to distract her. After this marriage ended in divorce in 1983 Nora’s second marriage began in auspicious circumstances (for an author) as she met her future husband after hiring him to build her bookshelves and they now co own Turn the Page Bookstore in Maryland.

Publishing her first novel, Irish Thoroughbred in 1981 with new publishing house Silhouette. She was the first author to be inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame and as of 2011 her books had spent a staggering 861 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list, including 176 weeks in the number-one spot. She continues to be a favourite of many of us and to celebrate her successes here are 10 Deathly Romantic Quotes from Nora Roberts.
