“An immigrant’s view conveyed with authority and wit . . . Adiga is a startlingly fine observer, and a complicator, in the manner of V.S. Naipaul.”

This story takes place in a single day. Danny has tried to emigrate to Australia but has been denied residency so he is an illegal who earns his living by cleaning people’s homes.

One of his clients is murdered and he knows who did it, but if he informs the police, he will be deported. He has a girlfriend and he wants to stay in Australia
His dilemma is the storyline and we follow Danny throughout this one day as he battled with his conscience about what is the right moral thing to do.
A fascinating look at the illegal immigration issue, well written and full of suspense.
Highly recommended.
