It’s a relief to see pictures of Amy Jade Winehouse clean, healthy, and sans beehive. (Also a brunette with natural tendrils.) The pictures have a wholesomeness.
The affection between the photographer and subject communicates lavishly. Glamour, for many, correlates to coldness and artifice. I feel glamour is simply the appearance of having made one’s self lovely in a sophisticated fashion. That task doesn’t require iciness and falseness. Glamour lives in these photos because Amy is in one of her best periods.
It’s remarkable that she could look fresh after so much drugginess. Even during the peak of her addiction hell, Blake snapped images. Thankfully, those images are scant although the motive served to demonstrate fun despite misery. For people fluent in English, German, and French, this book has triple the treat. Yet I urge readers from any language to continue reading, the photographs don’t cease. It saddens me that Blake Wood describes Amy as “wise beyond her years and full of experience (90).” I wish that she could have had more years just so the world could have witnessed that truth.
