“Her writing is exquisite; her vision is boundless. What a sublime book.”

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

Just finished Olive, Again by Elizabeth Strout. This is a new novel about Olive.  The first one, simply titled Olive Kitteridge won the Pulitzer Prize.  This book, somewhat in the same format as the original picks up late in Olive’s life as the ornery, hard to get along with Olive approaches her final years.

She is still the same, speaking her mind, causing controversy and always leaving people thinking of her and wondering what exactly hit them. I liked this version of Olive better than the original book.

This book seems to have more of a purpose, and I guess Olive grows on you. There are many poignant scenes in the book, Olive with her children, her husband, a former student of hers who has achieved some success and even strangers caught in the whirlwind that is Olive Kitteridge.

If you like the first book, you will surely enjoy this one.  The writing again is superb and it was simply a really good read. Highly recommended!
