“A dystopian future, humanity’s survival is at risk. Working together, against the odds, a group of people work together to find answers, help, and above all: hope. “

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

When I started reading this book I had no idea what it was about so was pleasantly surprised when it swept me along so easily.

The protagonist is a young girl, Melanie, who we learn is highly intelligent and, along with her classmates, is being taught by a warm, loving woman and kept in check by a stern man seemingly from a military background.

As the book progresses we learn why Melanie and her classmates are considered so special, and a horrific adventure begins.

This book is not for the squeamish or faint of heart but I also did not feel it was gratuitous horror or violence either, at times I was more emotionally affected by the story itself than by any gore within it.

I am very passionate about this novel and have passed it on to family and friends as it is wonderfully written with characters formed so well that you know aspects of them in your own circle of friends.

It sparks questions in one’s own mind of morality and ethics, what one would do in certain situations when faced with insurmountable odds.

I highly recommend you read this before it is released as a film, very soon!
