By November 17, 2016Children's Literature, News, Video

Wonder by R. J Palacio is a wonderful middle-grade fiction book about a boy with a facial disfigurement. Released to critical acclaim the book has proved popular with children and parents alike, selling 5 million copies since its release in 2012.

Today we hear that next year, Wonder is to be released in picture book format for smaller children. Written and illustrated by Palacio, the book will be a new adventure for Auggie Pullman, the hero of the original book.

The new book will bring Auggie Pullman to a new, younger generation of children and with such an unusual premise, promoting love and inclusivity, that can only be a good thing. The new Wonder picture book is due for release by Penguin Random House Children’s Books and is due for release on 28th March 2017.

And for fans of the original book, we also have more news about Auggie Pullman, as he’s about to be brought to life in a movie adaptation of the original book too. Filming is already underway with Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson playing Auggie’s parents and child actor Jacob Tremblay playing Auggie.

While there’s no official trailer release yet, the video below shows some pictures from the set, and it looks pretty exciting!

Wonder is set to hit theatres on April 7th 2017, a little after the release of the picture book and it’s likely to be a hit.

2017 is going to be an exciting year for fans of Wonder, and the new products are likely to be mean a revival for the original story. Readers who haven’t yet read the book with their children might want to do so now, before the release of the movie next year.
