I live in a town called Solihull which is pretty much slap bang in the centre of the UK; It’s the classic British town mix of urban, suburban and rural areas with a central shopping area and was named in 2013 as the best place to live in the UK although it has since lost that title to Edinburgh.
In the town centre is Solihull’s Core Theatre which is home to a library, theatre and café bars (Encore and Ovations), heritage and courtyard galleries, a Community Advice Hub and a number of voluntary and community sector organisations and now they are offering a digital detox with three Silent reading café sessions.
With the first session planned for Monday 31st October at 6pm people are invited to bring along a book or eReader (but no Smart devices) grab an Ovations cake and coffee (or perhaps a cheeky glass of wine), and treat themselves to an hour of silent reading.
The Core states that whilst it’s not a reading club, it does offer a chance to unwind and read any book you like, in a cosy, informal environment without distractions and the evening finishes off with a chance to chat with others for 45 minutes about whatever you want to including whatever you happen to be reading.
The event will be repeated on
Monday 28 November 6pm – 7.45pm and
Monday 12 December 6pm – 7.45pm
