Book Week Scotland Goes Virtual for 2017!

By November 15, 2017Literary Events, News

We often read, and write about Book Week Scotland but I’ve never found the time to go. It’s a long way away and with events all over Scotland it’s impossible to attend them all, you just have to pick your favourites, but this year for the first time ever, people around the world will be able to join in with Book Week Scotland as 2017 brings the first Virtual Festival, running alongside the main festival. The festival runs from 27th November to 3rd December for 2017.

Book Week Scotland is run by the Scottish Book Trust and is a yearly event designed to promote Scottish literature and the love of reading. You can find out what events are on, what books can be voted for and learn how to hold a reading lunch at the Book Week Scotland page, but for the first time this year, there’s a virtual event too!

That means that wherever you are in the world, you can join in many events that are part of Book Week Scotland, even if you can’t get there yourself. You can follow the event’s Facebook page and You Tube channel to keep up with what is going on, and you don’t have to miss the Authors Live Event either, as that will be available at the Scottish Book Trust website.

As part of the virtual festival you can also join in Crime Writers Cluedo with best selling crime writers Val McDermid, Stuart McBride and Doug Johnstone. Tweet what you’re reading to #BookWeekScot, or vote on your favourite Scottish song or poem, and that’s just on Monday!

On Tuesday there’s the Authors Event and the chance to watch Book Week Scotland Poetry Slam on Facebook, and a Live Twitter Q&A with @NicolaSturgeon, First Minister.

Wednesday is all about book lists and reading inspiration, making literary inspired meals and another reminder to tweet using #BookWeekScot.

Thursday is the vote announcement with the books of the week, we’ll try and bring you that list here too! It doesn’t end there either, as we head into the weekend there’s more online fun, videos, storytelling and more! You can catch the full schedule of events at the Virtual Event page, and don’t forget to hook up to those social media channels to keep abreast of all the action!
