News on Winds of Winter Release – Still no News

Author G.R.R Martin has become almost legendary in the realms of no news news items; with fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire saga desperate for any information on Winds of Winter Release, first there was no news in the Spring, then when HBO’s season six of A Game of Thrones premiered earlier this year there was more no news, with Martin’s self imposed deadline passing in typically unspectacular style, no announcements, and no book.

Now, the news fans have been waiting for, or rather the non news; with hopes that the 6th book in The Song of Ice and Fire saga would be released or even an announcement of a forthcoming release would happen in late Summer, Martin has confirmed, absolutely nothing. Publishers HarperCollins are only able to say of any news of a future publication date, that an announcement will probably be made when Martin has finished writing and the draft has been submitted for editing which implies that any release is still a while away and Thrones fans are not going to get satisfaction any time soon.

A large number of fans had even hoped that the lengthy delay in publishing Wind of Winter might mean a double whammy with both it and the final book of the series A Dream of Spring being released together but an unnamed industry source has stated that those who believe that a two book release is imminent are “living in a fantasy world” but sadly not the one Martin is writing about.

Offering a glimmer of hope, it is expected that Martin will give an update on his progress at some point during August and to placate those of us who are desperate to find out what Daenerys, Arya and co are up to he has also released several chapter samples to keep us going.

Has any series finale ever been so anticipated?
