First Female Bond Author Writes Trilogy From “Feminist Perspective”

By November 15, 2021New Releases, News

A new author of James Bond novels has promised to bring us stories told from a “feminist perspective”.

Author Kim Sherwood is writing a new trilogy of James Bond books and is the first female author to do so.

The first book is due in September 2022 and is set in a world where Bond is missing and is focussed on fresh new 00 agents.

According to the BBC, Sherwood is updating the universe created by Ian Fleming with a modern “feminist perspective” and an “ensemble cast of heroes who we can all identify with”.

Sherwood is working with Ian Fleming Publications to create a whole new perspective on the book series with a fresh focus on representation.

The award-winning author Sherwood spoke on BBC radio about her “lifelong dream”, telling them that the books “remained an evergreen symbol for Britain because he can change with us”, as she takes inspiration from the old novels while writing her own.

“We’ve always followed 007 before, but there are many other spies who you occasionally hear of in the background of Ian Fleming’s novels”, she explained.

“And that gives me this incredible range to be able to have a whole group of heroes on missions around the world… that’s been really exciting for me as a writer”.

Sherwell’s work will be part of the 40 other official James Bond works by six other writers like Sebastian Faulks and Anthony Horowitz, and will be the first woman to be a part of the Bond author line-up.
