Little Miss Inventor Joins the Mr Men/Little Miss Collection

The Mr. Men books, illustrated and written by Roger Hargreaves have been a hit with children since 1971 when they were first published and the collection was later increased to include female characters in 1981 with an accompanying series, Little Miss. Now, the Little Miss collection is about to be joined by a new character, Little Miss Inventor.

Over the years, the Mr. Men and Little Miss books we all know and love from our childhoods have continued to sell. While Roger Hargreaves died in 1988, the series continues under the care of his son, Adam Hargreaves who now illustrates and authors the new additions to the Mr. Men library, including a Dr. Who collection which recently published the first female Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker, Dr. Thirteenth.

In March this year, we will see another new addition to the Little Miss Library. Little Miss Inventor is perhaps the inspirational character young girls need. Described as being not just “as bright as a button” but in fact “as bright as two buttons”, the only thing that seems to be stumping Little Miss Inventor in this new story is what she can make as a birthday present for Mr. Rude.

Talking about the new book, Adam Hargreaves said, “I always enjoy creating a brand-new character for the series and it was fun coming up with lots of crazy inventions for Little Miss Inventor’s home and silly ones for all her friends. It’s also been nice to write a story that promotes a positive role model and to challenge a stereotype, if only in a small way.”

Little Miss Inventor will be published by Egmont on International Women’s Day, the 8th March, and will also tie in with the beginning of British Science Week. A brilliantly positive role model that promotes creativity in children and may encourage more girls to pursue careers in science when they grow up, hopefully, this is just the first of many more similar characters for the Mr. Men and Little Miss series.
