Queen’s Personal Assistant Writes Book About Their Friendship

By September 27, 2019New Releases

Queen Elizabeth II became Queen of England after the sad death of her father in 1952. At the age of 93 she remains Queen to this day and her royal highness is currently the sixth longest reigning monarch of all time.

The Queen’s right-hand woman, Angela Kelly was appointed as her majesty’s first personal assistant, starting work in 2001, and she has served at the palace for the last 25 years. Now, the news has been broken that Angela Kelly is going to write a memoir about her life, work, and friendship with the Queen. Queen Elizabeth has given Kelly permission to pen such a book, which reportedly marks the first time ever that a serving member of the royal family has been given such permission.

Angela Kelly’s insight into the inner workings of the palace and the royal family which resides there will include; never-before-seen photographs and details of the private and strong bond of friendship that has developed between the queen and Angela Kelly over the years they have worked together as employer and employee.

Samantha Cohen, former assistant private secretary to the Queen, explained: “The book documents the unique working relationship between Her Majesty, The Queen, and the woman who has been her Personal Assistant and Senior Dresser for more than two decades: Angela Kelly.”

“It gives a rare insight into the demands of the job of supporting the Monarch, and we gain privileged insight into a successful working relationship, characterised by humour, creativity, hard work, and a mutual commitment to service and duty. Angela is a talented and inspiring woman, who has captured the highlights of her long career with The Queen for us all to share.”

Angela Kelly, has previously discussed her relationship with the Queen in a 2007 article for The Telegraph in which she said, “I don’t know why the Queen seems fond of me – because I don’t give her an easy time! I do think she values my opinion, but she is the one who is in control. She always makes the final decision. We are two typical women. We discuss clothes, make-up, jewellery. We say, ‘Would this piece of jewellery look nice with that outfit?’ and things like that.”

The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, The Dresser and the Wardrobe by Angela Kelly will be published by HarperCollins on 29th October and the audiobook, which is read by Angela Kelly herself, will be released the same day.
