Check Out The Melanin Library, a Place Where You Can Discover Great Reads by Black Authors

By February 15, 2021Culture, News

Discover great reads at the Melanin Library!

If we are being totally honest, the publishing industry is largely dominated by white authors. It seems that the vast majority of modern classics- from The Great Gatsby, to Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter all came from white authors, which is fine, but we can’t help but feel that authors of colour aren’t getting the same amount of attention white authors are.

If you feel the same way then you’ll want to check out The Melanin Library, a site where you can find books from all genres by black authors.

As the site’s description reads, The Melanin Library was “Born from the idea that Black authors should be easier to find, this website was created by Written in Melanin Publishing to make that idea a reality. This website is an ever-growing database of Black authors and their books.”

The library takes its name from the noun, which means ‘a dark brown to black pigment occurring in the hair, skin, and iris of the eye in people.’

Author Chelsea Lockhart is the founder of The Melanin Library and created Written in Melanin Publishing and Melanin Ink/The Bookish Magazine. She also hosts Melanin Chat and is described on the site as an “Author. Wife. Anime lover. Tea drinker. Book devourer. Idea conjurer. Doer of things never done. The tornado in the Wizard of Oz.

“Black. Magic. Unstoppable.”

If your looking to read more from black authors, then The Melanin Library is a great way to discover a book you’ll love.
