Chelsea Clinton has signed 11-book deal for feminist children’s series

Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former president Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, will collaborate on a series of 10 new chapter books and a picture book.

The books will additions to her She Persisted series that was launched in 2017. The title of which takes its name from a famous exchange between Mitch McConnell and Elizabeth Warren in 2017. Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren had been criticising the Trump administration’s nomination of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General and was accused by McConnell of violating an obscure rule.

“Sen. Warren was giving a lengthy speech,” Mr McConnell said. “She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”

Penguin Random House will publish She Persisted in Science: Brilliant Women Who Made a Difference, featuring Florence Nightingale, Jane Goodall, and Greta Thunberg.

Many will be co-authored by Kelly Starling and Tae Keller, and will highlight the lives of Coretta Scott King, Maya Lin, Malala Yousafzai, and Temple Grandin.

“It’s always the right time to share inspirational stories about women who have persisted in science, and it feels particularly important now to shine a light on women scientists and their contributions to our shared public health, the fight against climate change, and so much more,” Clinton said in a statement.

“I’m also honoured to partner with ten brilliant writers, along with Alexandra Boiger and artist Gillian Flint, to continue the ‘She Persisted’ chapter book series. Together we’ll share in-depth stories about ten more inspirational woman who show young readers that they can dream big, persist, and make a big difference.”
