Controversial Milo Yiannopoulos Memoirs Cancelled

By February 21, 2017News, Political

The furore has rumbled on for weeks with protests about Simon & Schuster’s plans to publish the memoirs of controversial far-right provocateur Milo Yianopoulos’ memoirs.

Protestors battled the plans to publish, quoting Yiannopoulos’ scathing remarks about women, and transgender people but that wasn’t enough to deter S&S from publishing the memoirs and they pressed ahead with the plan.

Then people pointed out that during Gamergate, the Brietbart editor had incited a wave of racist trolls to attack Ghostbusters’ star Leslie Jones but that wasn’t enough to put S&S off either. The far right leanings of Brietbart weren’t enough to dissuade the publisher either, and they cited free speech in defence of the publication.

It seems though that advocating relationships between young boys and paedophiles is a step too far though, even for Simon & Schuster and today a spokesman has announced that they are cancelling the publication with this tweet.

Although the controversial author has defended the comments, stating they were taken out of context, it’s a step too far for the publishers who have cancelled the publication of Dangerous, the memoirs of Milo Yiannopoulos.

It has taken quite a lot for S&S to make this decision, but it seems that even free speech has its limits, even for those who are anti-censorship.
