If you’re a fan of sci-fi and Fantasy, then you may be aware of Robert Zelazny’s science-fantasy novel Roadmarks, which imagines a highway which travels through time and space, who’s exits leads to different periods of history. If you’ve read the book, or like the sound of it, then you’ll be pleased to learn that HBO has announced a TV adaptation is in the works, and it will be produced by none other than George R.R. Martin, whose fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire was adapted into the critically acclaimed show Game of Thrones.

As Deadline reports, the show is being adapted by Kalinda Vazquez, who previously worked on the likes of Star Trek: Discovery and Fear the Walking Dead, and she will also serve as the executive producer and showrunner of the adaptation. Published in 1979, Roadmarks explores a place where certain people can explore the past and future, as well as attempt to alter their past to create a better future.

Before passing away in 1995, Zelanzy was friends with Martin after they met at a writing workshop in the mid ’70s. Martin has described him as a kind and generous man who loaned him money when he was a struggling writer. The former co-producer of Game of Thrones, Vince Gerardis, will also executive produce the show, and he is currently attached to the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off show House of the Dragon.

Of the upcoming show, Martin said: “My career in television started in 1985 when I adapted Roger Zelazny’s Last Defender of Camelot for The Twilight Zone. Roger was a friend, a mentor, and one of the greatest science fiction writers who ever lived. It was an honour to be able to bring his work to television. That is why I am so thrilled to be a part of adapting Roger’s novel Roadmarks for HBO. We have a great book, a great screenwriter in Kalinda Vasquez, and the makings of a wonderful, original show. I look forward to a long and thrilling journey.”
