Queer Literature Festival in India this November

By September 11, 2018Literary Events, News

Following the news of the recent supreme court ruling to decriminalise homosexuality in India the country is to launch its first LGBTIQIA+ literary festival to be hosted in the city of Lucknow in November.

The festival is to be organised by the Awadh Queer Committee (AQC) and is the inaugural Awadh Queer Literature Festival to run over two days in November. Its aim is to promote and empower queer literature by fostering an environment where writers and publishers can network and discuss the community issues.

The same organisation organised Lucknow’s first Pride Walk in 2017 as well as the city’s first ever queer film festival.

The Awadh Queer Literature Festival will include writing workshops, queer themed film screenings and plays, art exhibitions showcasing the work of queer artists and stalls providing information on healthcare, HIV and Aids. An online portal, Tales by Queers has already been launched to showcase works by emerging queer authors across various genres in English, Hindi and Urdu.

The festival is also expected to welcome various notable guests who will appear at the inaugural festival including Indian journalist and prominent LGBT rights activist Ashok Row Kavi, trans activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, and Lambda Literary Award nominated historian Saleem Kidwai.

The festival has already launched their website ahead of time and you can find out all the information at aqlfest.org
