An Homage to the Poet Pam Ayres

By March 14, 2016March 2nd, 2024Authors, Poetry

If you grew up in the United Kingdom during the late seventies, the eighties and even the early nineties then the name Pam Ayres is synonymous with Saturday Evening talk shows and your mum in hysterics at something you never quite got.

Pam’s unique West Country accented poetry first came to the nation’s notice when she appeared on a talent show called Opportunity Knocks in 1975 where she became an overnight sensation. Her poems are quirky, humorous, and very tongue in cheek, covering every imaginable subject and poking fun at everyday life in a truly wonderful manner.

For me, Pam’s poetry has to be read out in her voice and so as an homage to the poet Pam Ayres, here are some videos of her reciting her poetry as only she can.

If you already know and love Pam Ayres and her poetry I hope you’ve enjoyed this trip down memory lane and if not, I hope you enjoyed your introduction to poetry, Pam style.
