10 Fictional Foods That You Can Actually Eat

How many times have you read about a fictional dish in a novel and wanted to try it yourself? I was permanently hungry reading Harry Potter, particularly the scenes in the Burrow and at Hogwarts, who wouldn’t want to try all that wonderful wizarding fare?

We suggest eating before reading this, but here are the best fictional foods we can find!

Harry Potter: Transport yourself to The Three Broomsticks or The Leaky Cauldron with this muggle’s approximation of Butterbeer.

The Hunger Games: Haymitch’s Basket of Love

“Peeta peers through the rocks and then gives a whoop. Before I can stop him, he’s out in the rain, then handing something in to me. A silver parachute attached to a basket. I rip it open at once and inside there’s a feast—fresh rolls, goat cheese, apples, and best of all, a tureen of that incredible lamb stew on wild rice. The very dish I told Caesar Flickerman was the most impressive thing the Capitol had to offer. Peeta wriggles back inside, his face lit up like the sun.”

A Game of Thrones: Lemon Cakes

“Sansa was running out of patience now. “You have to come with me,” she told her sister firmly. “You can’t refuse the queen. Septa  Mordane will expect you.”

Arya ignored her. She gave a hard yank with the brush. Nymeria growled and spun away, affronted. “Come back here!”

“There’s going to be lemon cakes and tea,” Sansa went on, all adult and reasonable. Lady brushed against her leg. Sansa scratched  her ears the way she liked, and Lady sat beside her on her haunches, watching Arya chase Nymeria.”

A Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy: Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster

Take the juice from one bottle of Ol’ Janx Spirit.

Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V— Oh, that Santraginean seawater! Oh, those Santraginean fish!

Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (it must be properly iced or the benzene is lost).

Allow four litres of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it, in memory of all those happy hikers who have died of pleasure in the Marshes of Fallia.

Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qualactin Hypermint extract, redolent of all the heady odours of the dark Qualactin Zones, subtle, sweet and mystic.

Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger. Watch it dissolve, spreading the fires of the Algolian Suns deep into the heart of the drink.

Sprinkle Zamphuor.

Add an olive.

Drink with caution.
