Rosa Wins Doctor Who Fans Favourite

The latest series of Doctor Who saw Jodie Whitaker take the reins and step into the role of The Doctor, as the first female doctor, Fans of the BBC TV series have been voting on their favourite episode from this series and The Radio Times has revealed the most popular episodes.

The winner, with 31% of the 9,000 votes was Rosa, written by Malorie Blackman (writer and ex. Children’s Laurette) and Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch writer). Rosa, was a historic-style episode which took The Doctor and her companions back to 1950s America. The story Rosa Parks and the well-known story of her refusal to give up her seat to a white person on a bus and the monumental U.S civil rights movement that surrounded this act. The episode was a powerful look at discrimination, something which Malorie Blackman has written about before in her brilliant YA series Noughts and Crosses.

When it was announced that she would be joining the writing team led by Chibnall, Blackman herself stated, “I’ve always loved Doctor Who. Getting the chance to write for this series has definitely been a dream come true.”

The other episodes for series 11 ranked in order of votes percentage were; Kerblam, Demons of the Punjab, It Takes You Away, The Woman Who Fell to Earth, The Witchfinders, The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos, The Ghost Monument, Arachnids in the UK, and The Tsuranga Conundrum.

Doctor Who will return with a Christmas special on New Year’s Day on BBC One at 7pm.
