Anacoluthon (noun)

ana-kol-oo-thon

A sentence or construction in which the expected grammatical sequence is absent.

A word that evolved from the Greek anakolouthon, an- not + akolouthos following. An example of anacolouthon is, while in the garden, the door banged shut.
