Word of the Day – Malapropism

By October 17, 2015Word of the Day

Malapropism(n)

mal-uh-pr-o-pizm

The mistaken use of a word in place of a similar-sounding one, often with an amusing effect.

One of my favourite things to see on Twitter, malapropisms have been given a whole new platform with the birth of Social Media.

Example sentences

“She looked so beautiful dancing the flamingo; is a lovely malapropism; such a visual mistake.”

“My father in law is forever speaking in malapropisms, we often threaten to put him on YouTube.”
