Word of the Day – Peremptory

By October 24, 2015Word of the Day

Peremptory (adj)

puhr-emp-tuh-ree

Insisting on immediate attention or obedience, especially in a brusquely imperious way.

What a brilliant piece of terminology, I can’t imagine any peremptory people realising they’re being slighted when hearing this aimed at them and their behaviour.

Example sentences

“Why is it, in every long queue there is always one peremptory person that makes everything take twice as long?”

“At the restaurant last night, there was a complete boor of a man being all peremptory and making everyone in his group feel awkward.”
