umm-l-ow-t

A mark ¨ used over a vowel, especially in German, to indicate a different vowel quality.

We see these ¨ so often, namely when reading or discussing the Brontës, it’s nice to know what they’re called.

Example sentence

“I do wish that the fonts in WordPress would support the use of the umlaut!”
