High School Transforms Hallways Into Iconic Book Covers

A novel way to encourage reading, Mundelein High School District 120, Chicago, Illinois have transformed their English department hallway into an amazing learning environment.

Using walls either side of the classroom doorways which jut out like book spines, this High school have turned their corridor into a bookshelf-esque line-up just in time for students returning from their Christmas break in January. In a post on Facebook the High School explained, “A Routine hallway has been transformed into a giant motivational tableau to encourage reading.”

This stunning project, which was designed by Visual Image Photography, uses vinyl murals to turn the walls into giant book titles. Among the books chosen to adorn these walls are; Bear Town by Fredrik Backman, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, and October Mourning by Leslea Newman.

The effect of these transformations is truly amazing to look at and we hope the students are in awe with this artwork in their school as much as we are.

If Lord of the Rings characters were Zodiac Signs…

By | Inspired by Literature, News | No Comments
The Zodiac consists of 12 signs, each with particular characteristics assigned for people born at specific times of the year. For centuries now, each month-long period has had its own constellation but for Jonah Malamud it just wasn’t enough.

The Instagram blogger decided to collate the main characters from his favourite fictional world and with an obviously astute and scientific mind (!) went about assigning each Middle-Earth resident with their star sign according to their characteristics.

Check out the twelve below and let us know in the comments or on FB if it is correct!

Man Tweets his FIRST ever viewing of the Harry Potter movies

By | Adaptations, Inspired by Literature | No Comments
As much as it may amaze you some people have yet to watch the movie adaptation of the Harry Potter series. (I know!) One of those folk is Chef Swasty on Twitter. Chef describes himself as “Conqueror of Greenland, heister of couches, bane of shitty-neighbors, YouTube chef, uneducated in movies” in his Twitter bio. His lack of magic was never on purpose- sometimes movies or fads can pass us by- but he certainly made up lost time by binge watching every single HP movie over the course of a few days. Live tweeting as he watched, his reactions during the emotional rollercoaster are just brilliant. The live Twitter thread is immense- as one can imagine- but the full thread can be found on Imgur.

For now, here are Chef Swasty’s hilarious reactions to the first two movies…

According to their ‘About’ information on their Facebook page they say:

“New stories added daily or at our convenience.

Submit your tales — your life is bullshit too!”

Good to know we can add our own shame to the ever-growing list of tragic titles.

If you submitted a title about your life- what would yours be?
