Anuradha Roy Wins the DSC Prize

A few weeks ago we brought you the news that the DSC Prize short list had been announced at the Galle Literary Festival in Sri Lanka, and there were some fantastic books that made the list. Earlier this week the winner was announced and the DSC Prize 2016 goes to Anuradha Roy for her novel, Sleeping on Jupiter.

The author was presented with the trophy and the $50,000 prize money earlier this week and is this year’s winner of the coveted prize, beating the other five shortlisted authors.

The DSC Prize for South Asian Literature is in its sixth year now and is considered to be a prestigious and established international literature prize. This year the DSC had 74 entries from participating publishers from South Asia, and also from other countries such as the UK, US, and Canada. This is because the award focuses on the book not the ethnicity of the author, which means that so long as the work is based on the South Asian region and its people, it can be entered.

Previous winners of this prestigious award include Jhumpa Lahiri for The Lowland, Cyrus Mistry for Chronicle of a Corpse Bearer, Jeet Thayil for Narcopolis, Shehan Karunatilaka for Chinaman, and H. M Naqvi for Home Boy.

Sleeping on Jupiter has been translated into several languages and is now tipped to be a best seller.
