The 2018 American Library Association Conference is set to be held next month on June 22 in New Orleans and it has been announced that former First Lady Michelle Obama will kick off the conference with a keynote speech.
The national conference of librarians attracts bibliophiles from all walks of life, from librarians to teachers, and is one of the largest annual gatherings of book lovers in the world. As reported by Publishers Weekly, other speakers will include the likes of historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, U.S. poet laureate Tracy K. Smith, broadcaster Jose Antonio Vargas, and biographer Jonathan Eig.
Michelle Obama will speak at New Orleans’ Morial Convention Center and it’s thought she will be talking about her upcoming memoir ‘Becoming,’ (US – UK) which is set to be released later this year on November 13 and will be published by Penguin Random House.
The conference will close with actress Viola Davis, who will be discussing her upcoming children’s book ‘Corduroy Takes a Bow,’ which is set to be published on September 4.
Michelle Obama’s memoir is one of the most anticipated books of the year, though it should also be noted that she and her husband Obama have also signed a joint book deal with Penguin Random House for a reported $60 million. It looks like those interested the Obamas will have plenty to read in the near future.
