Amazon Suspend Non-Essential Shipments to Warehouses

By March 18, 2020News

Yesterday, Amazon announced news sure to strike fear into the heart of every paperback fan. Shipment of all non essential goods will be stopped to warehouses in the UK and US to help cope with the demand for vital items to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

This is great news if you’ve been trying to get hand sanitiser, masks, or even practical items that people are hoarding such as baby products and groceries. However the news has left readers wondering if they are going to be able to keep buying books, especially when many libraries are on lock down.

Kindle and Audible books are completely unaffected by this decision, and for the most part books will be largely unaffected too. It’s possible that any items that sell well, may sell out and stock will not be refilled but for books that could simply mean it has to come directly from an independent seller instead of from the Amazon warehouse.

The news for booksellers is slightly different ,if you do use the Amazon warehouse to sell then it’s possible that for a while you may have to take over despatch of your own books, but this could be a good thing for independent book sellers as we all change our habits for a little while.

News on the street is don’t panic yet, and read on!
