Australia’s Ramsay Centre staff red-faced after Shakespeare tweet

By July 8, 2020Culture, News

Australia’s Ramsay Centre’s social media has been embarrassed after an error-filled tweet had to be deleted.

On Thursday, Australia’s Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation shocked its Twitter followers with a tweet about an unheard of Shakespeare play “Macbath”.

The offending tweet was full of errors, and has since been deleted.

The tweet misspelled “tragedies” and “Macbeth”, and ‘instalment’ by using the US English spelling. They also referred to the infamous Scottish Play as a “book”.

“We’re excited to present the fifth installment [sic] of our Great Books of the Western Canon Video Series,” it said. “In this most recent video of the series, the discussion focuses on Shakespeare’s Macbath [sic], one of Shakespeare’s great tradegies [sic].”

The official Ramsay Centre account apologised for the errors and thanked Twitter users for correcting them, blaming ‘autocorrect’ for their mistakes.

“The joys of smartphones, auto correct, and working from home,” they said. “Rest assured, tweets are not great books. If only Shakespeare was here with a twitter account”.

The account then deleted and reposted the original tweet but STILL spelt “Macbeth” as “Macbath”.
