Tmesis (noun)

t-mi-sis

The separation of parts of a compound word by an intervening word or words.

Tmeses (pl) are often used in informal speech, often to comedy effect. Used often and made famous my Big from the Sex and the City series. From the Greek ‘to cut’.

Example sentences

“I think you’re abso-blooming-lutely wonderful.”

“Absol-f*cking-lutely, baby!”
