Born on November 18th 1939 Margaret Eleanor Atwood is a Canadian poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist, and environmental activist who is probably best known for her Dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale. Born in Ottawa, Ontario Margaret’s early childhood was spent following her father as he collected data for his research in forest entomology and never went to school until she was eight. A voracious reader she would begin writing stories and plays at the age of six publishing her first poems and short stories at just sixteen years of age.
