By May 5, 2016Word of the Day

Wisenheimer (noun)

wiz-en-hi-mer

A person who behaves in an irritatingly smug or arrogant fashion, typically by making clever remarks and displaying their knowledge.

I love this word! Coined in the US in around 1920, and used informally in US language.

Example sentences

“He’s always strutting around making declarations, the wisenheimer.”

“He’s such a wisenheimer, he immediately makes people defensive.”
