Drag Queen, Courtney Act, to publish children’s book

By September 4, 2025News

Australian drag queen, runner-up on season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race and Dancing with the Stars contestant, Courtney Act, has announced that she is publishing a new children’s book in October (Australian release date). Shane Jarek, known better by his drag persona Courtney Act is joining many other performers to pen children’s books and be part of ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ with his title, Confetti and the Rainbow Garden.

The story, which aims to inspire acceptance and independence in young readers (age 3+) is a sweet tale about curiosity, creativity, family and identity through exploration of the natural world. The book’s words are written by Courtney Act and accompanied by beautiful illustrations by award-winning artist, Dylan Finney.

Double page spread from inside the upcoming children’s book, Confetti and the Rainbow Garden.

Outlining the book’s story, the publisher Pantera Press, an imprint of Hardie Grant, writes: “Welcome to Nan’s garden, a wonderland where kangaroo paws play soccer, water lilies dive, and lilly pillies do science experiments. Confetti is on a mission to find out who they’ll grow up to be – a wistful waratah, lorikeet-laden grevillea, or perhaps a frolicking fern?

“Join Confetti on an adventure celebrating family and flora, and how life is beautiful when we’re free to be ourselves.”

Confetti and the Rainbow Garden publishes 28th October 2025 in Australia. It is available to pre-order online now or will be available in bookstores upon release. Dates for publication and availability outside Australia are yet to be released.
