Casting for an upcoming adaptation of David Nicholls’ You Are Here has been announced with big names in British acting among the stars. In this “witty and tender love story”, Claire Foy (The Crown, Wolf Hall) stars as Marnie, Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice 2005, Succession) stars as Michael, and Karla Crome (Possession, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen) joins the cast as their mutual friend Cleo, who brings the group together for a weekend in the Lakes.
Accompanying them are Josiah Green-Mhlanga (Andy and the Band) playing Cleo’s son, Anthony, and Tom Stourton (Barbie, Dreaming Whilst Black) playing Conrad; a friend of Cleo’s husband and a reluctant addition to the hike.
Author David Nicholls is no stranger to seeing his works recreated for the screen with adaptations of his novels: Starter For Ten and One Day already receiving adaptation; the latter of which was both a 2011 film starring Anne Hathaway, and later a 2024 14-part Netflix series.
His latest novel, You Are Here, published in 2024 is also the latest to be optioned for production. Set along the Coast to Coast walking trail from the Lake District to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire, this novel of modern love, lonliness, second chances and the search for connection brings together two middle-aged protagonists who are unexpectedly thrusts together by a mutual friend on the long-distance walking trail. Filming in the Lake District and around Manchester is reportedly set to commence soon.
The eight-part adaptation from the BBC and STARZ is based on Nicholls’ bestselling novel, and will be directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Room, Normal People) and produced by Element Pictures, a Fremantle company (Normal People, The Cage, Poor Things).
You Are Here will air exclusively on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK and Ireland, and on STARZ in the US.
