It was announced last year that George R.R. Martin would be releasing a new book related to his hugely popular A Song of Ice and Fire series. Unfortunately, it isn’t the long awaited sixth instalment The Winds of Winter, but instead it’s a companion book which delves into the history of Westeros and gives us an intimate look at the reign of the Targaryen monarchs.
Fire and Blood will be the first of two books that are set to be released and will give further details on the rule of the Targaryens and how they shaped the Westeros we know today. Those excited to learn more about George’s brutal fantasy world will be interested to see that the German cover has been officially revealed. An exact release date for the book is yet to be revealed though it is expected to launch later this year in the Autumn months. It has been confirmed that the book will be released before The Winds of Winter so don’t expect that one to drop anytime soon.
A similar book called The World of Ice and Fire was published in 2014 and gave readers a detailed look at the history of Westeros and the major characters and events that shaped it. Martin has stated that, when it came to the Targaryens, he wasn’t able to go into as much detail as he’d have liked and so has decided to write Fire and Blood Vol. 1 and 2 in order to bring fans the full history of the dragon riding conquerors. We look forward to returning to Westeros soon!
