Word of the Day – kælling

By September 20, 2015Word of the Day

kælling (adj)

kaey-ling

A Danish term for an uncouth, loudmouthed, unpleasant woman who directs her ire, often in public at her offspring. It’s not directly translatable but beautifully descriptive.

You know that woman who stands on her doorstep (or in line at the supermarket, or at the park, or in a restaurant) cursing at her children? The Danes know her, too.

Example sentences

“The filth coming out of that kælling’s mouth, her children have no chance!”

“It’s no wonder her children swear, she’s a complete kælling.”
